Mission College students can get a VTA SmartPass card for free rides on VTA buses
and light rail throughout the semester! With a small fee at the start of the term,
students gain unlimited access to public transit in Santa Clara County for the entire
semester.
Easy Online Request System
Students can now request their VTA SmartPass and ID cards online via the Office of
Student Activities. After completing the online request, students can pick up their
cards in person at the Campus Center Information Desk. If you prefer to have your
cards mailed, email mc.basicneeds@missioncollege.edu after completing the process.
Processing Time
- Allow 7-10 business days for processing.
- Cards can also be obtained in person at the Campus Center Information Desk.
Eligibility Notes
- SmartPass is available only to enrolled Mission College students. Community Education,
Non-Credit, and Concurrent Enrollment high school students are not eligible.
- Winter session-only students are not eligible for SmartPass.
- Faculty, staff, and administration enrolled in courses are eligible.
SmartPass Use & Reactivation
- No Need for New Card Each Semester: Your SmartPass Clipper card automatically reloads every semester as long as you're
enrolled.
- Reactivate SmartPass: If you’re returning after a break and still have your card, visit the Information
Desk with a photo ID, your class schedule, and your SmartPass Clipper card to reactivate
it. Please allow up to 7 business days for reactivation.
- Lost Cards: If you lose your card, the first replacement costs $25.
VTA Routes
Mission College is serviced by VTA Routes 20, 57, and 59. Check VTA’s website or use
the Transit App for updated routes.
SmartPass Exclusions
The SmartPass is not valid on VTA Express Bus, ACE, Amtrak, BART, Caltrain, or other
transit services outside Santa Clara County. For out-of-county travel, load funds
onto a separate Clipper card.
Refund & Replacement Policies
- Refunds: Available before the Census Date if you drop all classes. After the Census Date,
no refunds are given.
- Replacement Fees: Lost card: $25; stolen (with police report): $15; defective: $6. Second replacements
incur no further fees.
SmartPass Misuse Policy
The SmartPass is non-transferable. Selling, transferring, or misuse may result in
fines and disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion from Mission College.
