Promise

The Mission Promise Program is designed to help first-time college students succeed academically, stay on track for graduation, and ultimately transfer to a four-year university. This state-funded program offers free tuition, priority enrollment, textbook support, and other resources to assist students in their academic journey. Through individualized counseling, workshops, and networking opportunities, students are guided toward their educational and career goals.

Joining the Mission Promise Program is simple. Follow these steps to get started:

1. Meet Eligibility Requirements:
• Commit to full-time study (12+ units per semester, or DSPS equivalent).
• Be seeking a degree from Mission College.
• Be a California resident or eligible for in-state tuition under AB 540.
• Be a first-time college student or have fewer than 15 college units (excluding dual enrollment units).
2. Complete a Financial Aid Application:
   Apply for financial aid for each academic year, ensuring you are eligible for the program’s benefits.
3. Enroll Full-Time:
   Maintain enrollment of at least 12 units each semester, or the equivalent if enrolled in DSPS.
4. Declare a Major:
   Choose a major by your first year at Mission College.
5. Create an Educational Plan:
   Develop a Comprehensive Student Education Plan (Ed Plan) in your first year (starting Fall 2024).
6. Meet with a Counselor:
   Regularly check in with your Promise counselor each semester to stay on track with your goals.
7. Participate in Program Activities:
   Attend workshops, tutoring sessions, and community events as required by the program.
8. Register for English & Math:
   Follow the recommendations in your Ed Plan and register for English and Math courses in your first year.

Eligibility & Program Expectations

• Complete a financial aid application every year.
• Enroll in at least 12 units (or DSPS equivalent) each semester.
• Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Create an Educational Plan by your first year.
• Participate in required program activities and workshops.
