The plan includes clear objectives to enhance sustainability in areas such as transportation, waste management, and resource conservation.
How You Can Get Involved
Mission College encourages students, staff, and the community to participate in sustainability efforts. Attend open meetings to stay updated on sustainability initiatives, offer feedback, and get involved in shaping the future of campus sustainability. The Eco Fair and other outreach events provide opportunities to learn, engage, and contribute to the college's green initiatives.
Waste Management Pilot Program
Mission College is testing a new waste management system to improve recycling and composting rates, reduce contamination, and ease the custodial workload. Over thirty waste stations, featuring clearly labeled bins for recycling, compost, and trash, are being placed across the campus. This pilot program also helps Mission College meet California’s SB 1383 legislation, aimed at reducing food waste in landfills.
Sustainability Tips for the Mission College Community
Mission College is committed to educating students and staff on how to live more sustainably. Here are a few simple tips:
- Switch to Reusable Bottles: Reduce plastic waste by carrying a reusable water bottle instead of single-use plastic.
- Use Lids While Cooking: Save energy and reduce cooking time by covering pots with lids. This simple change can save up to 14% in energy costs.
- Minimize Food Waste: Compost food scraps and choose more sustainable food options to reduce environmental impact.
Get Involved and Share Your Ideas
Mission College values the input of its students and staff. Whether you’re attending sustainability events or submitting feedback through surveys, your ideas matter. Participate in surveys like the Commute Survey or Eco Fair Feedback to help the college refine its sustainability initiatives.
By working together, we can make Mission College a leading example of sustainability, providing a greener future for everyone.
