The AANAPISI program strengthens Mission College’s ability to:

• Increase enrollment of AAPI students.
• Boost Fall-to-Spring retention for first-time degree-seeking AAPI and low-income students.
• Improve transfer rates for AAPI and low-income students to four-year degree programs.

With nearly 50% of our student population identifying as AAPI, we represent diverse subgroups such as Vietnamese (32.7%) and Filipino (21.5%). Many of these students are first-generation college attendees and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, making our mission even more critical.

Scholarships

The AANAPISI Scholarship Program provides financial support to undergraduate AAPI students.

• Awards range from $2,500 one-time scholarships to $10,000 multi-year scholarships.
• 2023-2024 Application Deadline: January 9, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST.

A hub for students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines.

• Access tutoring, workshops, and networking events.
• Participate in annual STEM Week, featuring panels, guest speakers, and hands-on activities.

Campus Tours and Research Opportunities

AANAPISI organizes tours to universities like UCLA, UC Berkeley, and CSU campuses, giving students insight into transfer pathways.

• Summer Research Programs provide funding for hands-on experience in STEM and other fields.

AANAPISI's Impact

Since receiving the Title III AANAPISI Part A and Part F grants, Mission College has:

• Improved ESL pathways, helping students transition to college-level English.
• Enhanced academic and student support services for AAPI students.
• Strengthened data collection to better address AAPI student needs.

Additionally, the program combats stereotypes like the "model minority myth" by addressing real challenges, such as financial instability and access to resources. On average, 54% of financial aid is awarded to AAPI students at Mission College.
