Mission College Partners with Build On Campus to Host Full-Day "Build with AI" Hands-On Summit
For Immediate Release
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - Mission College, in partnership with Build On Campus, will host Build with AI: Hands-On Training on Saturday, November 14, 2026, offering community members, working professionals, and students direct access to Silicon Valley technology leaders for an intensive day of practical AI prototyping and skills development.
Hosted on the Mission College campus at 3000 Mission College Blvd. in Santa Clara, the full-day summit runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Unlike conventional lecture-style tech conferences, the event is built around active, guided creation. Attendees do not need any coding experience or technical background; participants will spend the morning learning core concepts and the afternoon building functioning prototypes, personalized job-search tools, workflow automations, or small-business assets side-by-side with industry mentors.
"As a college in the heart of Silicon Valley, Mission College has both an opportunity and a responsibility to connect innovation with the people in our community," said Lorrie Ranck, Vice President of Instruction at Mission College.
"Hosting Build On Campus reflects our commitment to making artificial intelligence accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or prior experience with technology. By creating opportunities for students and community members to explore these tools, ask questions, and develop practical skills, we can help ensure that the benefits of innovation are shared more equitably and open doors to learning, careers, and future opportunities."
The summit opens with keynote presentations from prominent industry figures:
- Cortney Harding, Emmy-nominated XR producer, author of The Spatial Race, and AI/VR strategist for organizations such as Amazon, Walmart, and the NIH, presenting "Be the Human in the Loop."
- Laura Gómez, Silicon Valley founder, former product growth leader at YouTube and Twitter, founder of Atipica, and San Mateo County Behavioral Health Commissioner, delivering a case study on leveraging technology for community equity and access.
- Sudha Jamthe, technology futurist, author, Stanford Continuing Studies instructor, and leading LinkedIn Learning AI educator, leading the afternoon closing reflections and "What's Next" roadmap.
Following a morning of foundational insights and a catered lunch, attendees will participate in two intensive afternoon "Build Sprints" led by dedicated coaches across four specialized tracks:
- AI in Your Home Life (with Lovable): Led by San Jose Lovable Ambassador J. Michelle Maraj, guiding beginners to build apps for family organization, trip itineraries, and household problem-solving.
- Tools for the Classroom and Work (with Google): Led by Deepa Subramanian, Google Developer Expert in Web & AI, focusing on automating reports, curriculum development, and daily administrative workflows.
- AI and Your Job Search: Led by Albert Qian, founder of Albert's List, helping job seekers build dynamic, job-tailored resumes, interview coaches, and digital portfolios.
- Build a New Business or Side Gig: Led by Michael Hoffman, CEO of Gather Voices, guiding aspiring entrepreneurs from problem identification to landing page design and product launches.
“The people who will feel the biggest changes from AI are working adults, job seekers, parents and small business owners, and they rarely get time with the teams building these tools. Mission College is opening its doors to the whole community so our neighbors can spend a day building alongside industry experts and leave with something they can put to work right away,” said Wendy Erickson, Co-Founder of Build On Campus.
